Unsurprisingly, LSU jumped two spots to #1 with their win over Alabama. Penn State's loss to Minnesota also opened the door for Oregon to climb into a playoff position. Minnesota may have finally started to demonstrate how good they actually are. They've been a bit of a sleeper all season but now leapfrogged Utah, who were on a bye, and have a bit more legitimacy in 6th place. In a game that I'm sure will interest The Commissioner, they play at IOWA next week.
This week I have also run the numbers for David Burge's newly proposed ranking system that he describes as being based on the "Degrees of Kevin Bacon" theory in Hollywood. I'm including that ranking list and a full explanation of how it works in a separate post here. It has some interesting behavior on who gets ranked where, but actually results in the same top 4 teams, though not in the same order.
So many big games this week: Minnesota at IOWA (47 vs 95 marble gain potential), Wake Forest at Clemson (139 vs 52), Oklahoma at Baylor (119 vs 73), Georgia at Auburn (67 vs 79), and Indiana at Penn St (99 vs 49).
We still seem to be getting new followers of the Marble Game every week, so as a refresher, here are the rules for how this works:
- Each P5 team started the season with 200 marbles, each G5 started with 100.
- For each home win you take 20% of your opponents marbles. For each road win you take 25%.
- Neutral site games are treated like home games (worth 20%) for each team.
- Notre Dame and BYU were given the privilege of starting with 200 marbles.
- Fractional marbles get rounded to whole marbles at the time when they are moved from one team to the other.
If you have any feedback or questions or see any issues feel free to reach out to the commissioner, David Burge (@IowaHawkBlog) or myself (@NateEMiller) on Twitter.
