Hello everyone, welcome to the Week 4 results of IowaHawkBlog's Marble Game. There were quite a few interesting games this week that had some big impacts near the top, with Georgia, Cal, and Wisconsin being perhaps the biggest. My Utes lost a nail-biter at USC unfortunately, once again demonstrating the nearly flat distribution of quality among PAC-12 teams.
Anyway, SMU has jumped up to being the best non-P5 school with 219 marbles in 28th place after their road win at TCU. UCLA saved themselves by somehow beating Washington State (see my previous statement about the PAC-12), therefore leaving the honor of being the worst P5 school to a tie between two SEC teams: Vandy and Tennesee. The SEC has arguably the widest distribution of quality of any conference in college football. Both of those teams have 90 marbles and are tied at 92nd.
Some big games in the coming week include: Miss. St. at Auburn (81 vs 43 marble-gain potential), Ohio St at Nebraska (60 vs 63 potential), Virginia at ND (54 vs 75), and Arizona St at Cal (79 vs 42).
And finally, as always, if you see any errors or want to discuss or give feedback, please let the Commish or me know on Twitter (@IowaHawkBlog and @NateEMiller).
For those that don't recall or are new here, the rules of the Marble Game are:
- Each power-5 team started the season with 200 marbles, each non-power-5 started with 100.
- For each home win you take 20% of your opponents marbles. For each road win you take 25%.
- Neutral site games are treated like home games (worth 20%) for each team
- Notre Dame and BYU were given the privilege of starting with 200 marbles
- Fractional marbles get rounded to whole marbles at the time when they are moved from one team to the other.
Also I added the final column last week (on suggestion from @ChrisPaulRoney) which now shows the change in Rank and the change in Marbles since the previous week.
