We lost three undefeated teams this week. LSU fell at Florida, OU lost to Texas in the Red River Showdown, and UK was finally exposed by A&M. As a result, Florida and Texas both leaped their respective opponents into the top 10, and though UK fell and A&M rose, UK is still higher at 12th and A&M's previous loss keeps them down at 23rd.
As explained last week and on Twitter (@NateEMiller), ND had the biggest potential for gains this week while Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson could really only hold steady. That's basically what happened as we see.
USF won again and has now broken into the top 25. They, along with Cincy and UCF, remain undefeated. Those teams' schedules make it rather difficult to get marbles, so wait for one of them to take from the other two and perhaps make a run higher into the rankings. (I think UCF may be the best among the 3. They've played an easier schedule than USF but have won by bigger margins so who knows? See some data on that elsewhere on my blog here.) UCLA and Nebraska continue their race to the bottom and are now tied for 111th with 54 marbles.
The matchups that have the potential for the biggest impacts near the top this coming week have to be UGA at LSU (73 vs 78 marble potential respectively), UW at Oregon (63 vs 65 marbles), and Wisconsin at Michigan (73 vs 52 marbles). Most of the rest of the top teams have relatively straightforward games at home (ND, Ohio St, Bama, Texas).
As always, please feel free to message me on Twitter. I'm certain the inventor and commissioner of the Marble Game also enjoys hearing from you (@IowaHawkBlog). Let me know if you find any mistakes.
