Notre Dame continues to hold that top spot, and 4 of the top 5 teams stay the same as last week. Georgia falls to 11th thanks to their upset loss at LSU, who climb to 7th, and Texas slides into 5th place. Thanks to their respective upsets, W. Virginia, Wisconsin, Washington, and Miami also all dropped considerably.
With the losses by UGA, Colorado, and W. Virginia, we are now down to 8 undefeated teams, with 3 of them coming from the AAC. USF, UCF, and Cincy are all 6-0 and grouped together in the marble count. One will eventually distill out. Last year I was really pulling for UCF. I'm a little less inclined this year based partially on where the AAC schedules have come out. USF, UCF, and Cincy have played 3 of the 5 EASIEST schedules in all of FBS so far this season by my calculation. See the list here.
UCLA finally won a game, so they are no longer neck-and-neck with the Cornhuskers for worst P5 school. In fact, Arkansas, with their home loss to Ole Miss and who are yet to win against an FBS opponent, has now dropped into a tie for that auspicious title. Both teams have 43 marbles and are sitting at 116th.
The biggest matchups I see coming in this next week are: NC State at Clemson (98 vs 69 marble potential respectively), Miss State at LSU (92 vs 41 marbles), Mich at Mich State (64 vs 69 marbles), Oregon at Wash State (62 vs 63 marbles), Maryland at Iowa (73 vs 41 marbles), and USC at Utah (58 vs 58 marbles). Notre Dame is on a bye, so Ohio State will likely jump to first with a win at Purdue (40 marble take). Alabama has another easy-ish game and can only take 37 marbles from Tennessee.
As always, thanks for following along, and if you have any feedback or corrections or comments please let me or the commish know on Twitter at @NateEMiller and @IowaHawkBlog.
