NEMindex through Week 9

While Utah did get its second loss and fall 8 spots to 20th, they still have a clear path to winning the PAC-12 South, and could then still make the playoff.  Our two losses are to North teams and therefore won't show up in tiebreakers.  We already beat USC for the South.  As long as we beat UCLA, Colorado, and the Arizonas, we still make it.

Ohio State and Michigan switched spots at the top. As is often the case, bye weeks tend to work well for teams on the bubble. Alabama also got a bye bump.  Georgia is making moves but still hasn't proven themselves. They have another decent test next week against Missouri.

As is often the case in FBS, the PAC-12 has the highest average rank across all teams in the conference while also having relatively few teams near the absolute top.  The conference is much "flatter" than the others in its distribution of talent top-to-bottom.  While the SEC has some great teams near the top, they also have Arkansas and Vandy dragging them way down. Someday I should compile this data from recent seasons and plot it, but this is not that day.
