I'm on vacation in Utah this weekend to see the Utah vs Washington State game and the last Real Salt Lake game of the regular season, but didn't dare not get all the rankings done. So here it is; week 5's results. Clemson continues to hold #1, but looked a bit exposed this week vs UNC. Ohio State and Wake Forest jumped into the top 4 with their wins, but I wouldn't expect them to stay there long. The SEC has 5 of the top 10 positions but none of those 5 have played each other yet. That's gonna change this week when Florida plays Auburn, a game that has the potential to net them 73 or 81 marbles, respectively. Given that Clemson, Wake Forest, and Alabama are on byes this week, that would be more than enough to put the winner into 1st place depending on the outcome of the Ohio St game. Meanwhile, with Arizona St's win over Cal, the PAC-12 continues to prove how even of a conference it is while cannibalizing itself into mediocre rankings.
Vandy saved themselves from being the worst P5 team with their win over N. Illinois, leaving Tennessee and Oregon State in a tie for the coveted position. They both have 90 marbles and are tied for 96th place.
Some of the other big games this week include: Iowa at Michigan (55 vs 65 marble gain potential), Ohio St vs Michigan St (52 vs 94), and Cal at Oregon (57 vs 47).
And finally, as always, if you see any errors or want to discuss or give feedback, please let the Commish or me know on Twitter (@IowaHawkBlog and @NateEMiller).
For those that don't recall or are new here, the rules of the Marble Game are:
- Each P5 team started the season with 200 marbles, each non-P5 started with 100.
- For each home win you take 20% of your opponents marbles. For each road win you take 25%.
- Neutral site games are treated like home games (worth 20%) for each team.
- Notre Dame and BYU were given the privilege of starting with 200 marbles.
- Fractional marbles get rounded at the time when they're moved from one team to the other.
EDIT: I didn't know if I'd get it done today, but I did. HERE is a link to the first posting of rankings from my other ranking system for this season. This is my own deal I've been running for nearly a decade. Go look if you're interested. Thanks
