Ohio State's big win was enough to move them past Clemson, who took a bye this week, up to 2nd place. Seems like a more reasonable order to the top three to me given the state of the ACC right now. Utah can't catch a break. Even with Oregon losing and with covering the spread against Arizona, it still wasn't enough to move them up as they got jumped by UGA and therefore remain in the 6 spot. Georgia already locked up the division, and assuming they beat GT this week, they could probably make the playoff if they beat LSU in the SEC championship. If LSU wins that one, I don't think the committee will put in a 2-loss team over a possible 1-loss team in Oklahoma or Utah (assuming they win their respective championships).
Some of the big games this week: Ohio St at Michigan (102 vs 125 marble gain potential), Oklahoma at Oklahoma St (80 vs 102), Wisconsin at Minnesota (97 vs 67), Alabama at Auburn (51 vs 68), and Cincy at Memphis (72 vs 54).
I've also posted the rankings based on David's Degree's of Separation technique. In it, each team gets points for each win, and also then gets points for each win that the opponents they've beaten get. The version of that ranking using a logarithmic weighting for the degrees of separation has Ohio St, LSU, and Clemson in the top three spots. More details and the rankings can be found here.
The rules for how this works:
- Each P5 team started the season with 200 marbles, each G5 started with 100.
- For each home win you take 20% of your opponents marbles. For each road win you take 25%.
- Neutral site games are treated like home games (worth 20%) for each team.
- Notre Dame and BYU were given the privilege of starting with 200 marbles.
- Fractional marbles get rounded to whole marbles at the time when they are moved from one team to the other.
